One of the biggest mistakes businesses make, especially during hard times, is being "wedded to tradition"! Businesses fell into the same trap when the internet replaced the yellow pages by simply doing a Google search. Businesses refused to take advantage of Google searches and setting up their online profile and a website to meet this growing change in how consumers looked for a business to do business with.

Lots of businesses went out of business because of this. New competing businesses who adapted to the new way consumers would look for a business had tremendous success while leaving those who were wedded to tradition relying on the yellow pages to die a slow death.

I could tell you all kinds of stories of businesses dying a slow death sticking with what they knew and always relied on for leads (the yellow pages), and about businesses who adapted to the market place and how consumers would look for a business when needing something. The story is the same... those who stayed wedded to tradition died a slow death!

Here's what you need to understand... every business must also be a marketing machine. Marketing is everything to the success of a business. If you fail at developing leads and then moving them to being a client you will not be in business very long! You cannot survive without sales.

When large numbers of people stopped using the yellow pages and started using Google to find a business those who stayed wedded to tradition started watching their leads and sales dry up. It absolutely blew my mind watching businesses refuse to stay current with the buying patterns of consumers and continue to stay wedded to tradition. Don't be a business like this! It's suicide to your business.

During Economic Hard Times It's More Important Than Ever To Be Focused On Marketing Because The Number Of Leads Will Be Greatly Reduced As People Cut Way Back On Extra Expenditures!

During economic hard times you need to be smarter in how you conduct business. It's a lot like if a new competitor comes in... you want to stay a few steps ahead of them and out-market them.

But in this case what happens is there are far less leads in your market place. People aren't spending money like they would in a good economy. With limited leads and potential clients, it's the businesses who stand out as the best option for consumers to spend their limited money at who will win. Why shouldn't it be you?

This means you're going to need to step up your game. And it's a lot easier than you may think, especially when you have the majority of businesses wedded to tradition. As humans we're creatures of habit.

The problem is, in marketing you want to be fluid and flow with your consumers which goes against human nature.

The most common response you hear from business owners is, "but that's how we've always done it!" This is disastrous when you're fighting for the limited number of leads available in a bad economy.

Staying wedded to tradition makes you outdated and causes you to fall behind in your marketing over time leaving a huge opening for competitors to come in and out-market you. As a business you want to stay 3 steps ahead of your competition in your marketing.
